  • Challenge
    A challenge is an offer by a Commissioner, the creator of an etopps game, to join the game.

    Change Starters
    The pattern of available days that etopps users can make changes to their starters. Changes can be made every day or only on specific days of the week.

    The pattern of available days that etopps users can make changes to their starters. Changes can be made every day or only on specific days of the week.

    Commissioner
    The commissioner is an etopps member who creates a Private Challenge or a Divisional Challenge. The commissioner creates the game and invites members to participate. During the enrollment period, the commissioner has an exclusive view of those members who have accepted or declined the challenge.

    Community Players
    A set of players that all of the etopps users in a competition can choose from to complete rosters (a etopps user's starting lineup must consist of players chosen from the roster). The number of players that can be selected from the list of community players is shown in Game Rules.

    Competition
    A Competition is a sub-group of an etopps tournament. Smaller leagues allow etopps users to compete against a fewer teams within the same game. The rules are identical for each league within the overall game.

    Division
    A Division groups etoppers so that they can compete against others with somewhat similar portfolios An etopps user's division is based upon how many distinct players for a given sport are in his/her portfolio. An etopps user may belong to a different division for each of the sports. In etopps tournaments and divisional challenges, you can only compete in the games within your division.     Divisional Challenge
    A Divisional Challenge is a game that is created by an etopps user. In a divisional challenge, everyone in the commissioner's division is invited to join.

    Eligible Card
    The cards that are eligible are defined in the game rules. Eligible cards can either be all etopps cards from the sport, cards from a specific year, or the last card of a player issued. In addition, please note the following reasons why a card may not be eligible:
    1. The roster must include the correct players to field a lineup that meets the Starter Makeup
    2. Only one card of a given player can be used.
    3. All cards that are locked out due to participation in other competitions cannot be used.

    Enroll by
    After the big league challenge starts, it is still available for users to join. However your score will start until the next day of your join date.

    etopps Card
    An etopps Card represents a player and a year. The player's eligible position and current team may be different from the position and team listed on the card. Multiple holdings of the same card will allow the etopps user to enter the player in multiple For Keeps games.

    etopps Card Value
    Some games may require that the value of Roster cards meet a stated minimum The total of all etopps cards included in an etopps user's roster must exceed the minimum Budget. The value of cards is determined at the time a participant enrolls in a game.

    etopps Cards Needed
    This is the number of etopps cards that you need from your portfolio to create your roster. Games may have both a minimum and maximum value for the etopps cards that are needed. An etopps Card represents a player and a year. The player's eligible position and current team may be different from the position and team listed on the card. Multiple holdings of the same card will allow the etopps user to enter the player in multiple For Keeps games.

    etopps Tournament
    An etopps tournament is a game that is created and sponsored by etopps.

    etopps User
    An etopps user is a person with a valid etopps account.

    Event
    An event is a real world professional sporting competition on which the scoring of games is based.

    For Keeps
    For Keeps cards are used in a game and can be won by another competitor. For Keeps cards are locked out throughout the For Keeps game, which means that they cannot be taken for delivery, auctioned, traded, or played in another For Keeps game. For Keeps Games can either be: * For Keeps All, where all cards put up by an etopps user can be won by other players * For Keeps One, where the highest priced card at the end of the competition is at risk.

    Game
    A game is a competition where etopps users that are eligible can compete against other users. Games can either be an etopps Tournament, a Private Challenge, or a Divisional Challenge.

    Game Cost
    Some etopps tournaments are free to play, while others charge to play. The cost of the game can be seen from the game summary page.

    Game Dates
    A game's date range is the time period when statistics will be collected to determine game scores.

    Game Types
    Etopps has created a handful of games, such as "Home Run Derby" and "Total Bases". These games have certain fixed, predetermined information/rules, such as Scoring Methodology or Roster Size. In order to initiate a challenge, you must first choose a game type.

    League
    A League is a sub-group of an etopps tournament. Smaller leagues allow etopps users to compete against a fewer teams within the same game. The rules are identical for each league within the overall game.

    Max Number of Teams
    This is the maximum number of etoppers that play a game together in a competition. A Competition is a sub-group of an etopps tournament.Smaller leagues allow etopps users to compete against fewer teams within the same game. The rules are identical for each league within the overall game. Please note that only Divisional Challenges allow for a "Max Number of Teams" setting as low as 2. The "Max Number of Teams" setting is not used in Private Challenges as gamers join by invitation only.

    Player
    Player refers to a pro athlete that may or may not be represented by an etopps card.

    Position
    Each Player's position is determined at the start of the sport's season by etopps. Players can have multiple positions, and therefore, game participants can choose which of those positions the player will fill. Only those positions listed can be filled by the player.

    Positions Needed
    Each game may require specific positions that must be filled in order to play. A Roster is not complete unless it meets the Positions Needed requirement. Likewise, the Starters chosen must fill all positions.

    Private Challenge
    A Private Challenge is a game that is created by an etopps user, who acts as commissioner. A private challenge is by invitation only. In order to post a challenge, an etopps user must: - Choose a game type - Customize the game - Join the game - Invite members to join.

    Roster
    An etopps user's roster includes players chosen from his etopps cards plus all community players (if applicable). Starters for the game are chosen from this roster.

    Score
    Score is the current number of points earned by a games participant.

    Score: Last
    When displaying an etopper's Game Score, a column showing Last is displayed. Last is the number of points that an on the field player earned (using the game's scoring formula) on the previous day (or the last time scoring was updated).

    Score: Total
    When displaying an etopper's Game Score, a column showing Total is displayed. Total is the number of points that an on the field player earned (using the games's scoring formula) for the entire length of the game

    Score: Earned
    When displaying an etopper's Game Score, a column showing Earned is displayed. Earned differs from Total in the following way. Total is all points that an on the field player acquires using the game's scoring formula, whereas, and etopper only receives Earned points when a player is designated as a starter.

    Scoring Formula
    The Scoring Formula is the mathematical calculation used to determine points that each etopps user accumulates in a game. The total score ultimately determines ranking within a game.

    Set Starters Next
    The next day that etopps user can change their starting lineups using players from their roster.

    Starters
    Starters are a subset of an entire roster, and are used to determine a team's score. Starters may be changed throughout the competition based on the Set Starters Pattern.

    Statistics
    Statistics refers to the actual on field statistics of players and teams from events, e.g. HR, RBI, AVG, etc. Statistics also include wins/losses of a player's team. Statistics are then used in the Scoring Formula to determine ranking.

    Team Card
    Team Cards are special etopps cards representing a team and a year. Team cards will be used in games that are based on total team statistics, such as team wins, home runs, etc.

    Tie Breaker question
    If your score is the same as that of another competitor, your Tie Breaker answer will be used to determine the winner.
